The 25p firmware rumored this week is a reality, but it won’t be coming before April.
The 1DC is causing a lot of buzz on the net due the nice videos coming from the camera both in 4K as well as in super35 crop mode.
With 25p this camera will be one hard to beat rival in the affordable large sensor camera market.
We’ll have more footage to show soon.
The Canon EOS 1DC, an HDSLR that shoots 4K. Impressive, yet hard to handle in terms of data workflow. But there’s also the super35 crop-mode, that only picks the 35mm portion of its full-frame sensor. We found this mode delivers a very fine, sharp and clean image, a lot nicer than on any other HDSLR before.
Johnnie Behiri took the 1DC out for a spin and shot a short clip to show you a little super35 ALL-I (codec) footage. Make sure you download and see the source clip (IT’S PRORES) on vimeo: LINK
Johnnie Behiri says:Please regard the footage as “work in progress”. (I will try and upload more test footage in different frame rates and camera modes in the near future).
The very short camera test was intended to check how good the S35 All-I mode is “out of the box” ready for delivery.
No CC or sharpness applied in post. ...
The restriction of 24 frames per second was something that held many Europeans off from considering the EOS 1DC 4K HDSLR as their camera of choice. Canonrumors reports that 25p mode could be coming next week via a firmware update.
We’ve been asking around at Canon regarding the 24p limit last year, but...

I think this is worth mentioning. A very strong competitor in the HDSLR and large sensor camera realm has arrived and is available in limited stock. ...
Last year Sony showed us a semi professional slow motion camera for under $7k with their Sony FS700. What an exciting announcement that was. And we’re back to dreaming with JVC’s tiny 600fps beast. Unfortunately it is very likely that we will not see HD at that framerate. ...
I first encountered VBags through a friend and colleague of mine, and it immediately struck me as an intriguing idea and concept. VBag stands for Vacuum bag, and the technology behind it was originally only used by emergency services to stabilize accident patients for transport.
A VBag is a bag filled with tiny plastic pellets and it’s very lightweight and flexible when there’s still air in it. You can use it to very quickly position your camera in places where a tripod simply...
